The building originated as an 11th Century Benedictine convent. Legend has it that a nun who once lived in Hinchingbrooke House had a secret love affair with a monk and once the affair was discovered, they were both executed.
This was thought to be purely a thing of legend until skeletons of a man and woman were discovered under the main staircase in the house. These were carbon dated to circa 994-1050AD which is around a 1.000 years ago.
The female’s skeleton showed signs of being pregnant which led many to believe that the stories were true and the nun and monk were put to death to end any potential scandal that could follow.
One of the school’s curators, told ghost hunter Andrew Green that apparitions of nuns and monks are often seen in the house and the surrounding estate along with hearing the sound of playing children.
More recently as shown on Discovery Plus, an episode of ‘Paranormal Lockdown’ featured Hinchingbrooke House with Nick Groff (formerly from ‘Ghost Adventures’) carry out an investigation whilst staying at the property for 72 hours. Through this period, they experienced strong paranormal activity especially focused by the main staircase and the basement.
We want to believe will carry out their own thorough investigation and attempt to introduce a spirit medium to aid with their efforts. A full video of the event with an accompanying blog will be updated on this site and our social media links once the investigation has been completed.

Kelvedon Hatch’s bunker was built in 1952 as a precaution against nuclear fallout from tensions increasing between the East and West (the Cold War). This facility could house up to 600 people and could in the event of a nuclear war house all the key decision makers in helping the UK still have a government in place.
Although thankfully this was never required for this purpose, it has also been a Civil Defence Centre and a Regional Government Headquarters prior to turning into a Cold War Museum. Rumours of a death whilst the facility was being constructed along with a suicide and talk of the site being built over an ancient burial ground cannot be confirmed or, more importantly, denied!

In this iconic venue, I want to believe will be investigating each of the rooms within the museum to find out the ultimate answer to the biggest murder mystery the world has ever seen, who was “Jack the Ripper”. Investigate each of the room settings with original artifacts from the time which will be perfect for small parties as each room can only accommodate 5-6 people.
This will be the first time that we carry out an investigation at this event so be one of the first to join us. Due to the size of the building, limited tickets are available and free parking is available near the site (first come, first served in Cable Street and Ensign Street), but there is paid parking available nearby as well, as is access to the underground.
